Rory McIlroy divorce docs reveal prenup, relationship was ‘irretrievably broken’
Details are emerging from Rory McIlroy’s divorce filing.
Earlier Tuesday, news emerged that McIlroy had filed for divorce from Erica Stoll, his wife of seven years.
No reasons for McIlroy’s decision were immediately available, but the filing said that the marriage was “irretrievably broken” and it revealed that the couple had a prenup.
McIlroy and Stoll share a 3-year-old daughter, Poppy.
The divorce filing also asked for split custody of the child.
McIlroy and Stoll first began dating in 2014, after McIlroy’s engagement with former tennis star Caroline Wozniacki broke off.
The couple tied the knot in 2017 in Ireland at Ashford Castle.
Stars who attended the nuptials included Ed Sheeran and Stevie Wonder.
McIlroy’s camp confirmed the news of the divorce filing to the Irish Independent, and cited “Rory’s desire to ensure this difficult time is as respectful and amicable as possible.”
McIlroy, 35, has won four majors — the PGA Championship in 2012 and 2014, the U.S. Open in 2011 and The Open Championship in 2014.
Shortly after the news first broke on Tuesday, McIlroy was seen practicing before this weekend’s PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville.
His PGA Championship in 2014 also came at Valhalla, as he completed a one-stroke victory over Phil Mickelson to win his fourth major at 25 years old.
“I thought winning the [British] Open Championship a few weeks ago had sort of put me on a higher level in this game,’’ McIlroy said at the time.

“But then to win a fourth major here, to be one behind Phil, one behind Seve [Ballesteros], level with Ernie [Els], level with Raymond Floyd; I mean, I never thought I’d get this far at 25 years of age.
“I was happy being a two‑-time major champion coming into this year, and all of a sudden I’m a four-‑time major champion and going for the career Grand Slam at Augusta [next April]. It’s just been an incredible run of golf.’’
McIlroy has the second best odds at the PGA Championship, where he is +750 to win, +180 to finish in the top five, and -110 to finish in the top 10.
Only Scottie Scheffler, at +400 to win, has better odds than McIlroy in the tournament.
