Passengers flee fiery wreckage of Boeing 737 that skidded off runway in Senegal

Panicked passengers were forced to flee the burning wreckage of a Boeing 737 when it skidded off the runway in Senegal early Thursday, video showed.

Eleven people were injured – four of them severely – when the Air Senegal flight headed from Bamako, Mali, crashed mid-lift off from Dakar’s Blaise Diagne airport shortly after 1 a.m. local time, the BBC reported

One of the 78 passengers was seen scrambling away from the Boeing 737-300 aircraft as it went up in flames, one clip from the scene showed.

There were two pilots and four cabin crew also on board, according to a statement from the Minister of Infrastructure and AIr and Lad Transportation.

One of the pilots was among the injured, the BBC said.

The plane – which Air Senegal chartered from the Senegalese carrier Transair – was seen with a large hole in the left engine as first responders extinguished the blaze.

Operations at the airport have been halted as an investigation works to determine the cause of the crash, the BBC said.

Air Senegal did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for a comment on the incident.

The Dakar disaster came just one day after a FedEx Airlines Boeing 763 skidded on its nose down the runway in Turkey thanks to a landing gear malfunction.

Both incidents are the latest in a series of slip-ups for Boeing, which has been under much public scrutiny since a side door panel blew off an Alaska Airlines 737 Max mid-flight in January.

The manufacturer is now facing a criminal investigation over that accident.

More would-be whistleblowers with scathing accusations about the state of safety inspections at the company have also come out of the woodwork after two outspoken former employees died within weeks of each other.
