SUV driver kills 71-year-old mother crossing street with daughter during NYPD chase

An SUV driver fleeing from police slammed into a 71-year-old woman, killing her, as she was crossing a street with her daughter in Brooklyn on Thursday night, according to witnesses and police sources.

The victim’s 44-year-old daughter was also struck and injured by the blue Mazda CX-5 with Massachusetts license plates at Eldert Street and Knickerbocker Avenue in Bushwick around 5 p.m., police and sources said.

The older woman was rushed to Wyckoff Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries, cops said.

Her daughter was taken to Elmhurst Hospital in stable condition.

Law enforcement sources said police were pursuing the Mazda driver over an unspecified traffic infraction.

After crashing into the victims, the driver, who sported a ponytail, fled from the scene on foot toward the Halsey Street subway station, but it’s unclear if he went underground, the NYPD said.

He remained in the wind as of late Thursday.

Surveillance footage obtained by The Post shows the blue SUV speeding east on Eldert Street through the intersection and nearly hit a red car traveling on Knickerbocker Street as a police car trails only a few seconds behind.

A witness also said she saw a police car chasing after the Mazda leading up to the crash.

“It was very fast when the police was chasing, this vehicle was very fast,” Sandra Villaman said as she pointed to the crashed Mazda.

“I saw the two ladies on the floor,” the woman said, adding first responders tried to resuscitate her on the scene.

The owner of a white van that was hit by the Mazda in the hit-and-run described the scene as “sad and painful” when he heard a crash and exited his apartment building.

“I came out and saw that my van was pressed against the tree and I just ran over here and when I ran over here the ladies were on the floor,” witness Rodrigo Gonzalez said.

“One of them was convulsing … they were doing CPR on the older woman and the man had already run away.”
