Like the cushion it’s named after, Coussin de Cartier can be soft and oh-so-supple.
Developed over 2½ years using new technology and 3D printing, a distinctive design was unveiled in 2022 in the form of a rounded-edge square watch.
But instead of a rigid gold case, the timepiece features a flexible diamond- or gemstone-paved mesh that yields to the touch, just like a pillow.
Hidden beneath the links is a secret shape-memory component that allows the lattice to stretch and tighten again.
Hailed by horology experts for their technical virtuosity and savoir-faire, the pieces have also been praised by fashion insiders for their unusual beauty and iridescence.
Now, the pliant structure has been translated into an innovative, hand-finished fine jewelry collection.
Take the new, woven white-gold ring, a modern marvel.
Its sinuous shape is set with 525 diamonds, creating a shimmering field that wraps around the finger and rebounds immediately when pressed.
According to the company, it takes in-house artisans 80 hours to create, set and polish each twinkling treasure.
As for the stunning bracelet (not shown), it’s entirely paved with some 1,825 diamonds.
Here, the sculptural ring is paired with a hard-cased Coussin de Cartier watch that makes a graphic statement on the wrist.
Its bezel is adorned with diamonds and black spinels in a swirled pattern, while the dial, crown and buckle are encrusted with diamonds.
In a twist, the spinels are set upside down, creating a studded texture.
Count on Cartier to do the unexpected.
