King Charles’ hot equerry Lt. Col. Johnny Thompson given new role out of the spotlight after public hysteria

Lt. Col. Johnny Thompson is too hot to handle the public fodder of his good looks.

The senior aide, who is King Charles’ right-hand man and made headlines as “the hot equerry” during the ailing monarch’s coronation festivities in May, has reportedly transitioned into a more behind-the-scenes role.

A palace source claimed to the Times on Thursday that Thompson, 40, “remains senior equerry to the King and the Queen, in a more executive and less public-facing role.”

The outlet added that Thompson is “understood not to have enjoyed the public attention he received after attending several high-profile events with the King.”

The Post has contacted Buckingham Palace for comment.

An equerry is an officer of the British royal household who assists members of the family. Thompson has tended to Charles, 75, since the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022, although he is believed to have worked for Charles since 2020.

Thompson was most recently seen escorting the royal family to the Church of St. Mary Magdalene at Sandringham on Christmas Day.

Social media users deemed Thompson, who is known for appearing alongside the royal family in kilts, “Major Eye Candy” after Charles’ coronation. The king even promoted him after the historic event, leaving Thompson in charge of organizing his private affairs.

“The King’s pulling a decent trick by picking a social media sensation to be his right-hand man,” a source told the Sun at the time, adding that the “fabulous” aide will now become a “super equerry.”

But many fans of the royal family first caught feelings for Thompson when he went viral at the queen’s funeral. He previously served as her equerry and was her most senior bodyguard for some time.

The hunky assistant has been married to his wife, Caroline, since 2010.

Thompson will continue to look after Charles as the father of two battles cancer. Buckingham Palace announced earlier this month that doctors found cancer while the king was undergoing surgery to fix an enlarged prostate.

“His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties,” a statement released by the palace said.

“Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual,” the palace added.

Earlier this week, Charles said he was reduced to tears over the overwhelming support he’s received from the public following the news.
