‘Gang’s All Here’ Podcast Episode 172: Aaron Rodgers is Saving Jets Coaching Staff

nypost jets podcast

Sunday’s 30-0 loss by the Jets was a nightmare.

The players were outplayed. The offensive line gave Zach Wilson and Trevor Siemian no time to throw. The quarterbacks were not good.

The defense could not stop the Dolphins and were put in terrible spots thanks to four turnovers.

But most importantly, this coaching staff should be embarrassed.

Mike McDaniel and Vic Fangio coached circles around Robert Saleh, Nathaniel Hackett and company.

The Jets needed to win this game to keep their incredibly slim playoff hopes alive. Not only did they lose, they didn’t score a point. They didn’t show life.

The Jets offense went into the half with fewer yards than times being sacked. It’s almost impossible to reach that level of ineptitude.

Saleh, Hackett, Keith Carter and Todd Downing never seem to make an adjustment. They don’t have an answer. This is Year 3 of Saleh. The Jets head coach has had atrocious QB play in his time, but the record speaks for itself. They are 16-32 under him.

It’s the most inept offense in the NFL and it’s not really close.

The Jets made it 13 straight years without a playoff appearance with the loss Sunday and win by the Browns/Texans. It’s the longest drought in sports. For the greatest city in the world and a fanbase as loyal as any in sports, all deserve better. This city deserves at the very least, a football team that can make the playoffs…heck, have the final few games mean something.

We pretty much know how it’s going to go in the offseason: Hackett isn’t going anywhere. He’s Aaron Rodgers’ buddy.

And Saleh, you would imagine, will come back because Rodgers likes him, too.

But should he? The team has not played well enough or improved enough under his watch. Who says that Rodgers coming back next year with this coaching staff means they make the playoffs? The other side of the argument is “why change the coaching staff with just one year of Rodgers?”

And that’s likely the side that will win out come January. But if the Jets look like they did Sunday in the final three games, pink slips should not be out of the question.
