‘Gang’s All Here’ Podcast Episode 155: Breece Hall Propels Jets to Win For Hackett

It sure doesn’t look like Sean Payton is doing the opposite of what Nathaniel Hackett did last year in Denver. In fact, his team looks worse.

The Jets went into Denver on Sunday and won for Hack. He got the game ball in a 31-21 win and the team rallied around their offensive coordinator in the locker room after the game. The Jets needed to win this game Sunday to get to 2-3 and keep themselves in the playoff conversation. They did just that.

It was the Hall and Hall show. Mostly Breece, who ran for 177 yards, including a 72-yard TD run. But Bryce closed it out with a fumble recovery for a touchdown to seal the victory, doing an admirable job filling in for DJ Reed at cornerback.

It was a sloppy victory, but a win is a win. The Eagles come to MetLife Stadium on Sunday before the Jets enter the bye week, so this was a big one to secure. Brian Costello and I break it all down on a postgame episode of the “Gang’s All Here” podcast.

Gang’s All Here Podcast with Jake Brown & Brian Costello:

  • TAKE THAT, PAYTON: Sean Payton did all the yapping back in July and now has egg on his face. The Jets did not play their best game, but the Broncos were flat-out terrible. They had a few big plays, but the play-calling was terrible and they could not stop the run. Russell Wilson looks almost finished at this point and is not making the Broncos offense better. Hackett had a good game plan…Breece, Breece and more Breece.
  • BREECE THE BEAST: We were all waiting for the Jets to feed Breece Hall and see what magic he could make. He did just that on Sunday, including the big breakout 72-yard TD run. It was the only offensive TD of the day for the Jets offense, who struggled in the red zone, finishing with five field goals on the day. Hall needs to continue to get at least 20 carries every week.
  • ZACH ATTACK: Zach Wilson is a bit more comfortable now. He wasn’t great, but he played well enough and made the big throws when he needed to. He looks more confident out there and the O-line got better after a slow start to the game. They are starting to develop some cohesion and giving Zach enough time to get the ball out. The Jets have some stability now.
  • AVT: Alijah Vera-Tucker is going to miss the rest of the season and Max Mitchell will have to fill in for him. The next few weeks will be telling as the trade deadline approaches. Joe Douglas may have to see if there is an offensive lineman out there to trade for.
  • THE ROAD AHEAD: The Jets return home next week, but they have to face the defending NFC Champion Eagles. This will not be easy, but maybe the 5-0 Eagles are due for their first loss. The Jets will have to hope to just make it a competitive game and keep the positive mojo going into the bye, when the schedule eases up a bit after that.
