Bettor misses out on staggering $955,000 from Yankees’ ninth-inning disaster

Imagine the Yankees walking up to you and ripping your winning lottery ticket worth nearly $1 million.

That’s essentially what happened to this bettor Sunday at FanDuel Sportsbook, as his $10, 17-leg parlay that could pay out $955,000 did not cash due to the Yankees’ ninth-inning implosion against the Marlins.

Up four runs in the ninth and with lockdown closer Clay Holmes on the mound, it seemed like a given this bet would cash until the Yankees produced a meltdown of epic proportions.

Holmes botched a potential game-ending double play before allowing a game-tying two-RBI triple, was relieved by Tommy Kahnle and, sure enough, the Marlins walked it off.

The the Bronx Bombers had a 98 percent chance of winning the game entering the ninth, according to Statcast, and were easily -1000 or higher entering the ninth inning to win the game.

The baseball parlay included 17 legs on 10 different games.

There were some long odds in the parlay, with the longest odds coming in at +420 odds featuring the Guardians’ moneyline paired with over 7.5 runs against the Rays.

Most of the bets were plus-money in the parlay which hit, but the Yankees are the culprits who ripped this bettor’s heart out.
