One bad year shouldn’t define a player, right?
Denver Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy certainly doesn’t think so, as he is confident that quarterback Russell Wilson will return to form this upcoming season in large part because of his mentality.
“Russ is a soldier,” Jeudy told reporters at his youth football camp in Denver. “So just the way he handles his business, the way he handles situations, I just know the type of guy he is and the stuff that he can overcome. In the situations like that, that don’t put no fear into a man’s heart. And I know that this year, he got a big year coming ahead.”
Wilson is coming off his worst year by far in what has been a rather successful 11-year career.
He threw for 3,524 yards on a career low 60.5 completion percentage for 16 touchdowns along with 11 interceptions in his first season in Denver after 10 seasons with the Seattle Seahawks.
Denver’s offense struggled mightily as a result of the quarterback’s poor season — the Broncos were dead last in the NFL in scoring at 16.9 points per game.
The signal-caller was also sacked a league-high 55 times.
Despite Wilson’s woes, Jeudy was able to have one of his most productive seasons in his young career, finishing the campaign with 972 yards receiving — nearly 15 yards per catch — and six touchdowns.
Jeudy also believes that there is room for improvement in his game from last season as well.
“The biggest thing, really, for me is just consistency,” Jeudy said. “I know what I’m capable of doing, and I’m capable of playing at a high level. It showed the last six games, and the only thing for now is just bringing them last six games into the new year and just starting off strong and staying consistent.”
If Wilson can play like he did during his time in Seattle and if Jeudy can become a more consistent route runner, they potentially can make one of the top quarterback-receiver duos in the AFC.
