Justin Verlander makes his Mets debut finally on Thursday.

Brett Baty is scorching hot.

Francisco Alvarez is now hitting.

Despite some fans panicking, there are good things happening in Mets land.

With the two aces finally pitching together for the first time this season, there are reasons to smile.

To talk about the week ahead, the series loss to the Braves and the Mets’ young bats getting hot, we bring you a new episode of the “Amazin’ But True” podcast as I was joined by SNY’s “The Mets Pod” co-host Joe DeMayo.

Amazin’ But True Podcast with Jake Brown:

  • NO NEED TO PANIC: Mets lose two of three to the Braves, but Game 2 of the doubleheader Monday was a big win. There are reinforcements back in the next week. The middle relief is a problem, but there are other good things happening with this team. Fans need to be patient and believe in the rotation and this lineup.
  • REINFORCEMENTS: Verlander in the rotation will be a huge boost, along with the return of Scherzer. Carrasco back next week will also help, despite many fans thinking otherwise. He won more games than the other Mets starters last season. When he’s healthy, he will be a solid No. 4 or 5 starter for this team. Mets need to beat up on the lousy Tigers and Rockies this week.

Joe DeMayo Interview:
SNY’s “The Mets Pod” co-host

  • MIDDLE RELIEF: Are the Mets in trouble with their bullpen? What reinforcements do they have in the minor leagues to hold them over? They will have to make a big trade before the deadline.
  • ROTATION: When Carlos Carrasco returns next week, what should the Mets do? Does Joey Lucchesi stay in the rotation? Excited to see Verlander pitch. He looked good in his rehab outing and is hitting 96 on the radar.
  • THE KIDS: Great to see Baty and Alvarez in a groove. Had been covering them since they got drafted. They deserve this chance and it’s good to see them thrive. We may see Mark Vientos back at some point this year with the Mets. It may be another year for Ronny Mauricio.
