‘Amazin’ But True’ Podcast Episode 126: Mets’ Season Ends in Heartbreak

These Mets…just got eliminated by a team that went all-in at the trade deadline to win this season.

These Mets…failed when they needed it most.

These Mets…had a tremendous regular season…but in the end…a season that ended in a wild-card exit.

It’s hard to wrap your head around how quickly it all turned for these 2022 Mets. They seemed on their way to a NL East title. Then one bad weekend in Atlanta and one bad weekend in Queens…and it’s all over in the blink of an eye.

This season brought me personally and this fan base so many lifelong memories. Buck Showalter and company were so easy to root for. They had so many likable players on the team, a mix of veterans, young players and guys between. They had two aces, two leaders in the lineup and the best closer in baseball. They had a no-hitter, walk-offs, comebacks, improbable wins and so much adversity at times that they overcame.

Unfortunately in the end, they aren’t going to the NLDS. They aren’t winning a pennant. And they are hitting the golf course close to the time they usually would hit it were they not a wild card. The good news is that they have an owner that is willing to spend, a proven manager and will sign a new team president soon. There are more positive days on the horizon…but today it’s pure heartbreak for Mets nation.

To look back at what the heck happened against the Padres in the wild-card round and recap the 2022 season, Nelson Figueroa and I bring you a new episode of the “Amazin’ But True” podcast. We also look to the offseason and the Mets’ own free agents. Who stays who goes? Does Jacob deGrom stay? Does the rotation look a whole lot different? Does Brandon Nimmo return? Steve Cohen, Billy Eppler and company have a lot of work ahead of them this winter.

Until then, enjoy the season finale of the podcast. Thanks for all the support of the show all season. This team was truly a joy to cover all year and I hope that they can go on a much deeper run in October in 2023 and beyond.
